sports and adopt-a-grandma

drake and i both feel that we are busier than we ever were in provo while being back home. there is so much going on! as we're each the oldest to many siblings, there are so many things to try and get to! caden, josey, and cole have baseball/softball games- dassia has rugby games- jacinta had jr. miss- bailey had a dance performance (that we sadly missed)- and jessica has dance competitions all the time. we try our best to get to everything, but that can be a struggle. drake is helping chris coach caden's team and that ties him up quite a bit, but i've been to several of those games plus josey and cole's games too. it's too bad dassia plays rugby in boise frequently because that's a stretch to get to haha.
our lives have gotten considerably busy with drake's new work which involves him driving teenagers to appointments during the week, outside of his normally scheduled shifts. there was a day last week he was awake for over 34 hours straight because of a graveyard shift surrounded by appointments and coaching. i'm always amazed at how hard he is willing to work to support us! i've really got such a great catch of a man! also, ISU has proven to be several times more complicated than BYU ever was when it comes to registering for classes, getting financial aid, and finding anything online. after multiple trips into campus to turn in varying paper forms, i think he's finally being considered for summer financial aid (fingers crossed!) because i don't know what we'll do in a week when classes start if he doesn't get anything! also, there's been a lot of trips to the post office mailing various equipments back to companies because of our move. i think we're finally getting settled in and hopefully we won't feel quite so busy!
i've been casually job-searching. i feel a little guilty that i wasn't so on top of things like drake was, and i've gone a few weeks with no work... however, i have been busy being drake's "secretary" as he likes to call me with all my downtime. several jobs that i thought i had have fallen through and so it's just been a matter of trying and trying again. a funny story is that when we first moved here, i called the lava hot springs KOA, under operation of new owners, to see if they needed any more help for the summer because i had worked for the previous owners for two summers and was familiar with the computer system. the lady politely declined needing any more help, so i began applying elsewhere. two weeks later, that same lady called back saying her daughter was friends with jacinta and was told that i might be familiar with the program, and if i was interested, she'd definitely need my help. that caused me quite a laugh because she had no idea that i was the girl that had called two weeks ago, but i didn't mention anything and next week i'm going to visit with her and hopefully that will work out. just yesterday, i dropped an application off at a daycare in town that was hiring. within 45 minutes, i got a call back for an interview on monday. so now, i've got a few options and this next week i'm just going to feel things out before i decide. ideally, i want to work as close to full-time as possible so drake can relax a little bit and focus on his school (four online classes).
so our life has been a little hectic, but it's so nice being close to family and not having to miss out on all their adventures! cole will be starting flag-football soon and i've never seen him play! for two summers i've just looked at awesome pictures of my stud brother making touchdowns and running the ball, but i'm so excited to cheer him on in person now! also, sweet little kali jane called me up the other day and asked me to substitute as her grandma for grandparents day because no one could make it for her. i was so honored! i knew there would be fun activities and most likely treats, so i didn't hesitate a second before saying yes. she was so excited to see me walk through the school doors, and although i definitely looked a little funny and out of place, she didn't notice one bit and couldn't be happier to show me around her school and class. we played with playdough, chalk, and paint; participated in a "book-walk"; planted pumpkin seeds; and went to recess together. i had a really great time and i think she might remember those memories for a long time too. she had a few friends that were also without a grandparent there and i just adopted them as my grandchildren too :) those little girls drug me all around that school!  i am so grateful for those fun opportunities we are getting here!
