zenna ten month update

"no! not this morning!" i thought as i heard the cries next to me in bed. i had to be at important meetings for my first year of teaching this morning, and i needed all the sleep i could get. but no matter how hard i tried to ignore the sad cries, they continued getting louder and louder, and soon i was feeling sharp, baby heels digging into my side as the first signs of a tantrum were beginning to show. i rolled over, trying my best to calm her with "shh"s, but my ten-month-old daughter was relentless in her mission to wake me. i accepted my fate that i was going to have to get up earlier today. she was the boss now. i sat up and forced a smile on my still-groggy face at my angry, tearful baby. "good morning, baby." she immediately stopped. her eyes popped open and she flashed me her three-tooth smile. she kicked her legs fast like she was running in place. my heart swelled and already my frustration was melting away. she pulled herself up to a sitting position next to me, paused for a second with a gleeful grin, proud of her accomplishment, then lunged toward me, wrapping her chubby baby arms around my neck. never was i more grateful to be woken up earlier than anticipated. and never was i more grateful to be a mommy.

why shouldn't all journal entries/updates be in narrative form? i wrote this at a writers workshop with gary hogg. i feel like it's a perfect representation of my sweet, baby girl.
senna passed through her nine-month checkup with flying colors
she's still hovering around 22 pounds (she has been for a few months now) but she's OFF THE CHARTS in height. where'd that come from?
she's got four teeth now, and she loves eating more than ever
she continues to be more and more interactive and playful and life has never been so fun!
she loves games of tag with her daddy, she eggs him on constantly
now that she's a master of rolling over, i feel like i'm wrestling an alligator when trying to change her diaper
she loves pizza
she FINALLY says "mama" and it's all the time
she cries when i leave the front door, but not when daddy does :)
she is SO CLOSE to walking. she can walk with only the support of one of my fingers, and she walks back and forth along my couch
as i prepare to start working full-time, and need my sleep, she has been successfully weaned from nursing now - but she still sleeps with us
she loves to play with any form of balls
