summer 2014 recap

this summer has been some of the busiest months i've had in years. i started classes again in january after taking a semester off to have Zenna. since then, i haven't had a break and my first year as a fourth grade teacher starts in nine days. immediately after my winter semester ended, i started spring term which consisted of me being in classes from 8-3 (and sometimes 5) for three and a half weeks. then came finals and i immediately jumped into summer term which was less strenuous with classes only from 8-11 every day, but by that point all of us were in full swing trying to get our classes put together and some curriculum planned. also, drake and i decided to move fifteen minutes closer to both our work places. my days have been filled with homework assignments, classroom planning, lesson planning, box packing, box moving, new apartment set-up, and zenna duty. things have gotten stressful, but we've overall felt extremely blessed and happy to make the move and i'm so excited to start my next new adventure.
i've always felt that i was meant to be a teacher. when that's all you have wanted to do since you were in the first grade, you know you love it, but i've always felt on a deeper level, a spiritual level, that there was a place for me in the teaching world and a plan laid out for me. i feel extremely blessed to have landed in this opportunity for an internship that lets me get my hands completely dirty in the teaching business. and i feel that this is where i'm meant to be. this is one of those times in my life when i just feel like things have fallen into place for me in a way better than i could have provided for myself. i know this is because of my loving Heavenly Father who continues to watch out for me every minute of my days with the best plan that provides me the most happiness prepared.
of course, leaving zenna during the day will be hard, but the blessing here is that she gets to be with her daddy during the day and continue to strengthen their sweet bond they've developed. they are best friends and she wouldn't rather play games with anyone. she loves her daddy. i find myself in this awesome situation where i can go do what i love as a teacher during the day, with my mind at ease that my baby is being fully loved and receiving all the attention she needs, then come home and continue doing what i love as a mommy. i feel blessed. extremely blessed.
so here's a summer recap of all the things i've missed being busy busy busy!
4th of July parade in Provo

july brought a lot of fun like Zenna's best friend RJ turning one! we went and had a wonderful bbq with RJ and Zenna had a great time. we are so grateful for our best friends here!

July also brought the McCammon rodeo and zenna and i were lucky enough to sneak away for a few days to enjoy one of our favorite summertime traditions! Papa Matt roped after rubbing a little luck off zenna and he won a check for $300!

our May family dressed up like cowboys and indians for the rodeo.

Also while visiting during the rodeo weekend was a lot of fun celebrating aunt jacinta's birthday at lunch and pool days!

After this trip to Idaho, i brought home or newest pet! a lion mane rabbit named Rey until he may be renamed by my future class. zenna absolutely loves him. at first, she was extremely intrigued but a little terrified. she kept working up courage to touch him, then quickly losing it as she reached for him. now, she loves visiting him and playing with him outside.

After that, Josey came and stayed with us while she attended a basketball camp in Orem. while she was here, we tried to have some fun between our busy schedules. one of the things we did was go to deerfield reservoir and play in the water. it was pretty cold, but we slipped zenna in her tube and she handled the cold water better than any of us with one quick intake of air before smiles all over. it was a highlight of our summer!

this summer also brought the exciting chance to check seeing Wicked performed live off the bucket list! i went to see it with my mom and sisters and it was amazing!

finally, the downey fair came! it was sad not being there to watch nosey and cole perform in their horse events, but zenna and i did make it down for two days during the pig show and rodeo. zenna looked perfect in her western shirt from great grandma kris and showed true cowgirl colors. she had to be right up along the fences to see the animals as close up as possible or else she was mad. a pig even got snot from his snout on her fingers without her even flinching. she just wanted to stand up by the fence and watch the shows. the same thing happened on rodeo night, she loved the view from the fence! zenna also had a doctor appointment and grandma sarah came with us for a chance to be with zenna longer.

wow! that was a looong recap! zenna's stats after her doctor appointment show that she is big, big, big! she is off the charts in height, believe it or not based on her mom and dad, and she is above 95% in everything else! she waved right at dr. mansfield the second he walked in the door and surprised him, he said that was advanced for a nine month check-up! (he probably says that to all moms, right?) but he said based on her height, weight, and alertness she'd pass the one-year-checkup already!  we sure love this big girl!
