i am so grateful for the freedoms our country offers. this is one of the random occasional topics my mind wanders to in weird times, like driving alone. we really are so blessed here. often times, because of political preferences and strong opinions, we americans complain about our government or leaders... but honestly, we are so blessed to live on this land and have the amazing opportunities that we do. sure, teachers get paid nothing and that's a load of crap... but at least i can choose to be that! and i could even be a principal if i wanted to one day! sure, there are flaws in our medical system... but at least i am free to choose who delivers this baby and where it will be and how it will happen! anyway... i just want to throw it out there that i love america and i know it truly is watched over and protected by God. i know this is the chosen land and i know that it will always be that way.
now for our festivities. i had the day off **whoop whoop** like most everyone in my family. drake on the other hand, had more hours assigned to him. he sure works really hard and i sure appreciate it... but dang, his work schedule interferes with all the fun we're supposed to be having this summer! so i spent the july 4th with our families until 5 pm when he finally showed up too. we spent the morning at the annual inkom fourth of july parade. it was pretty hick-ish this year. lots of horses and trucks. but we love it anyway :) there was a man riding a legit bull (with horns! like texas longhorn style) as if it were a horse. he had a bridle and everything. that was pretty cool... and a little scary. it was really really hot waiting for the parade and i definitely got a burn-line on my feet, but at one point i got drenched from a squirt gun. thanks for watering the preggo person, man!
then, i sat in the shade and watched the basketball tournament that josey was in. that was really nice. in idaho, when you're in shade, it actually cools you down. and i haven't spent a summer like that in a while :) i also ate some really delicious (but horribly bad for you) food. then, i went up the mountain and spent the rest of the evening with the mckee family. i love them so much.they were having a campout at the farm, and they also brought back an old tradition: the Mud Bowl. the mud bowl is literally just that, a huge bowl dug out from the dirt and filled with water for three days until it became a literal bowl of mud. there is also a fairly large slide. i really wanted to jump in and participate, but the mother-in-law and other women wouldn't allow me. it was a little dangerous. one of drake's cousins chipped the bone in her ankle when she slipped on the slide because it's pretty bumpy with ridges. however, just watching was pretty entertaining itself!
then, drake finally showed up and he played in the mud for a while too. we also enjoyed a game of croquet. i'm not too great at games like that, but i had fun. dassia kicked all our butts. even drake's. the next day, friday, i worked all day so other people could have it off. i might as well since i lost all my hours from thursday. i spent the day in the baby room and i loved it. i had six babies under the age of one. that can get a little challenging, but you basically just hope you get a few down for naps at a time, which i did and that helped a lot. then, since drake was working until midnight, i went back up to the farm to the campout and had some delicious dinner with the mckees. i also played a good hour and half of volleyball - at nearly seven months pregnant... yeah, i'm sure that looked awesome. however, i had a blast. we were playing on a teeny court right next to camp where there was dinner, fire, and grills all around us. the net also only went to my shoulders. at one point, we did have six on six playing though and it was a lot of fun.
saturday also turned into a good day. i always complain about how drake and i never get a date-night anymore. well, we went on a spontaneous miniature golfing date at outer limits before he went to work at 4. then, i went to a wedding without him. story of my life this summer! but all of my babb family was at the wedding and it turned out really beautiful and fun! i'll be excited when drake can actually do a little more with me again, but until then, we're still making life pretty dang good together!
