catching up march weekends

a lot went down last weekend. it was my gunter grandparents mission farewell talk in idaho, so we had plans to make the trip. but, it turned out perfectly that we were able to watch cole wrestle and one of dassia's rugby games!
i've never found wrestling exciting, really, but when it's my seven-year-old skinny brother out there, the rush is as intense as anything! he actually weighs less this year than he did last year, but he's taller. he hasn't been winning as many matches as last season, but he's been learning some good lessons on good sportsmanship. he lost his first match, but won his second. the first match was tough- the other boy was a little thicker and had cole on his back many times, but cole never let himself get pinned. watching his face go red and flex with effort was about one of the most exciting, heartbreaking things i've ever witnessed. he's just out there trying as hard as he can to get up and out from under that kid!
the whole environment of little boy wrestling is electrifying! even preschool aged boys are out there flopping around trying to imitate what they've seen, and a lot of little boys get tears in their eyes.... and that's just killer. poor little boys! my heart breaks for every single one! then, there's the tough boys with mullets and fathers with braids down their back and motorcycle shirts on... they're little tough boys with attitudes. i didn't like them so much. and cole's second match was against a scowler. he looked like he literally wanted to break his first opponent's neck (he lost to him). but good old cole beat him on points. he did mention after that he wrestled the scowler boy :)
i just love how cole is so getting so long and grown up, but he's still little enough to give his oldest sister a hug and complain that i never stay long enough. he's also a huge admirer of drake and that just melts my heart too. i love having younger siblings!
then, dassia's rugby game was a whole new experience. dang, it was confusing at first, but enough people on the sidelines were helping us through it that it eventually starting coming together. question: why is it called "touchdown" in football? when it makes much more sense for it to be called "touchdown" in rugby?! and a "try?" what the heck? that makes no sense! but dassia is basically a beast and did awesome and her team creamed the other one!
when sunday rolled around, we listened to my sweet grandparents give amazing talks and then enjoyed a lot of really good food and desserts. it was good to be home with so many family members! i'm getting more and more excited for some temporary time in Idaho again!
sunday night, dassia came to provo with drake and i and slept on our couch. she's a future cougar!! (i honestly couldn't be more proud!) she came to classes on monday with me and then we toured some housing options, picked up a housing guide, and i showed her some of the ropes. i tried to give her some wise pointers about moving out and discussed financial options she could receive. it was a really nice couple of days! on tuesday we went to the BYU devotional, which actually turned out to be a forum on george washington, but hey, i wanted her to get a taste of some of my favorite things. all in all, it was a great weekend!!
