it's the small things

me, kendall, jennica
i have a friend (shout-out to jenna!) who loves laughing about these times in our lives. she has such a great attitude that is contagious, and lately i've been thinking how she's right. there are funny things in our lives as newlywed people sometimes scrounging by that are worth remembering and laughing about later- or now :) things like how half of our plug-ins don't work. we have to know to only use the bottom one at this outlet and the top one at this outlet. or how we have extra light switches in our apartment. they honestly don't do anything. they don't change how our outlets work (we tried all of them) and there are few light fixtures. they don't make sense. or sometimes the things we do for food, i don't even want to share some of the crazy combos. or how our tile floor in the bathroom is literally freezing in the morning, and the time it takes to go to the bathroom and get undressed for the shower  is all the time needed to make warm water sting the bottoms of my feet because they were just so frozen. but i've realized life is full of awesome memories, and so many of them are in the little things that happen to us. we often times record our big memories and events, but this post is all abou the small things.

oh, the life of a poor college student!
so far 2013 has been going pretty great -- except for the weather. my new semester only consists of 12 credits before i start practicums next Fall. so nothing too intense there, and that feels pretty good. i'm feeling really blessed as my hubby landed a solid job through the next several months and my plans to get planning for a summer in Vegas again are settled. i'm so excited!
i've always loved the provo winters because it doesn't ever get too cold, until this year! it's no worse than idaho now, and it's no fun-- especially because i walk to all my classes and work. also, baseboard heating in our apartment gets expensive, and we lose all our heat out the giant sliding glass doors in the living room. the cold has been no fun. i'm looking forward to a summer in the hot heat!

definitely one of the things i love most (this isn't a small thing either) is my friends! kendall ann, you make my life happy. you are funny and kind and wise and beautiful and awesome :) i love our lunches during the week or our huge shopping sprees... my life here wouldn't be the same without you and you deserve a public proclamation of my love! :) this is less embarrassing than in person in the middle of the wilk, right?

so kendall and i went on a shopping spree. we hit up michaels, tai pan, and victoria secret before heading to wal*mart where i tried my first price-matchin experience. i was definitely a beginner and didn't know some of the best tricks, but next time will be an improvement. i really wanted something to hold my towels in the bathroom because i have very limited space... i saw on pinterest the idea of using a wine rack, but i couldn't find one of those (tai pan usually never fails!), so i settled with a boring old shelf. however, i think it turned out pretty cute!
i really wanted the bathroom put together to look nice because my grandparents were coming to visit and see where we lived. they also happened to attend the sacrament meeting where drake and i gave talks. that is always fun ;) drake and i went so over our time that they had to cut the wife of the next couple out until another day... we both felt pretty bad about that, especially because her husband pointed out how she had been fasting for her talk... but i think our actual talks went pretty good actually. i love listening to drake speak, he won't admit it, but he's really good at it! he's someone people like listening to.
some more exciting news bringing in 2013 is that my good friend had her baby girl, Kayzie! congrats to kimmie and damien for creating such an adorable girl, i can't wait to get my hands on her!!

i also find myself thinking we are really lazy. we spend a lot of time watching tv shows or movies and eating! i don't know why we think we can get away with this! our most recent shows (not always do we watch these together) are downton abbey, nashville, american idol, smash, the office, the big bang theory, and parenthood. not to mention our recent splurge of watching the lord of the rings trilogy from start to finish. and i watched every second. sure, drake had to do drastic means to keep me awake all three times, usually involving minor forms of violence or making me so annoyed i was no longer tired. but i finally did it. i've seen all of those danged movies- i'd probably enjoy the books more. and i never thought they'd make me cry at the end! sam! why are you so great?!
also keeping me awake during times of sleep is our monster hamster. i still like him, but he keeps me up at night. he must be trying to escape by chewing and scratching at the metal bars, and those noises echo through our tiny studio apartment. so finally, after many nights of waking up every couple hours and then not being able to get back to sleep, i've resorted to locking him in our bathroom, the only place i can lock him up in, and finally i've found a way to sleep through the night again (i'm going to be a grouchy mama!)
and finally, we've been eating out a lot. buffalo wild wings- a favorite- and dallas cowboys waffles and texas roadhouse. yeah, we're gonna be fatties.
just our favorite date spot
genius christmas present for drake (go cinta!)
texas roadhouse birthday date for zane... in different cities
no complaints here, yet. it's the small things that make my life so great!
