semester reflections

now that it's finals week and i only have a couple papers left to write, i've been reflective over the last four months. my first semester as a married person = success! i can't even believe how fast time flew by. these are the times we will always cherish and remember as our first newlywed years. we've lived in a tiny studio apartment with only a separate bathroom, broken closet doors, half defective plug-ins, and the world's rock hardest mattress... BUT we've loved it. it's cozy, comfortable, and evolved into our home. i've done my best with my very limited resources and talents to decorate the walls and entertainment center to make things a little nicer-looking. i enjoy the luxuries of a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer, plus the bonus of never hearing my neighbors above or around me. it's really close to campus making my school and work commute on foot nice, AND we have our own parking spot meaning no provo police parking tickets any longer!!! overall, it's a great little spot, and we've enjoyed our last four months. the plan is to stay at least another four months, and maybe through the summer.

every week has been pretty much the same. i go to classes, coming home as often as i can to clean our always cluttered apartment, then work three days a week, then finally cooking and time with my honey. drake goes to work monday-friday, then comes home and spends time with me. mostly we watch netflix. we watch a lot of netflix. we've gone through glee, the office, that 70s show, parenthood, and prison break... not to mention the countless movies we get sucked into. it's a pretty great system. we spend almost every evening i'm not studying snuggling on the couch watching movies. i know, i know, we sound pretty lazy. that's why we've also done yoga together and danced to the wii. we try not to be too big of bums. like i've said countless times before, my life pretty much rocks.
lexi, michelle, me (i'm soooo short), jenna

besides the predictable-but-awesome agenda of drake and me, i also made a ton of new wonderful friends this semester. i knew lexi from last semester when we had PETE (physical education teacher education, i think?) and we always had a blast! through lexi, i had met jenna once. but this semster jenna, lexi, and i had a ton of classes together! math, music, and child development. so we became pretty great friends. i LOVE our conversations. they range from giggling about funnies, to very serious and wise advise, to simply embarrassing each other (jenna) with tmi topics. obviously i am so grateful for these girls and the sweet bonds and friendship we've discovered.

and then there's the crew. when kendall married thomas, she married into the crew. thomas' best friends from freshman year. before that, when kendall and i were still roommates and she was dating thomas, i became kinda close to some of the boys too. well, that one year when kendall was married and i wasn't, resulted in her becoming good friends with the wives of thomas' friends. when i got married... drake and i were adopted into their group. fortunately, they ALL enjoy sports and video games... a lot. so the girls gossip and paint nails while the boys play video games or talk sports. it's a great system. i'm also super grateful to have those friends in my life. who says when you get married you get less social?! i've never had this many friends at byu before haha :) we've had so much fun at parties, watching the boys play flag football, or playing co-ed volleyball together. i love the crew.

overall, i look back on these past four months and think of how lucky i am. i'm in provo with the man of my dreams, and the greatest friends a girl could ask for. i'm going to byu. i'm almost graduated and will finally be able to be a real, certified teacher. and i'm having the time of my life.

2012, you were good to me.
